To unlock every new ending associated with this DLC, it’s crucial to access the crypt. Regardless of your faction allegiance, your adventure involves thorough exploration across the breathtaking map to uncover all the keys.
Locating these keys can prove challenging, as the clues lead you throughout both the Midsummer island and the latest expansion area, occasionally directing seasoned players back to familiar zones within Atomfall in search of hidden treasures.
This guide aims to assist you in identifying not only the hint locations for the crypt keys in the Wicked Isle DLC but also the precise spots where you can collect the keys themselves.
Initiating the Quest
To embark on this quest, you should have already started looking into the whereabouts of the key locations. If you have not, your first task involves exploring the undergrown brewery near the orchards, located in the southeastern region of Midsummer.
Before proceeding, ensure that you’ve acquired the upgraded metal detector, as it’ll prove invaluable when you revisit previous locations in the quarantine zone to collect the keys.
This guide is structured in two main parts. We’ll kick off by tracking the hint locations on the Midsummer map and subsequently move into Part 2, where we will navigate the quarantine zone to secure the keys themselves.
Finding Lantfred’s Key: Part 1
According to lore, Lantfred was said to spend “all his hours at his quarry, ” implying his connection to the mines. Therefore, our search for Lantfred’s Key will take us south to the mines.
Be cautious upon your arrival, as a group of 3–4 pirates will likely be waiting at the mine’s entrance. Should you venture towards the pier south of the mine, new merfolk-like infected creatures will confront you.
Once you’ve triumphed over the enemies, approach the mine’s door where you’ll discover a white essence orb, akin to those found beneath the orchard brewery. Interacting with it prompts a cutscene to play out.
Upon completion, a note will materialize, indicating that Lantfred’s Key is retrievable using the enhanced metal detector in Skethermoor, which we will address in Part 2.
Finding Aldred’s Key: Part 1
Aldred was characterized by his “diligence amongst the manuscripts, ” which indicates that our initial clue for his key lies within the repository of manuscripts housed at the Abbey.
Approach with caution, as this area is infested with cult tribe members. You might choose to stealthily navigate around them to locate the entrance on the Abbey’s northeastern side.
The manuscripts are located in a secret chamber accessed via a narrow crawl space, providing safety from hostile forces. Inside, you will encounter another white essence orb.
Upon collecting the orb, another enriching cutscene unfolds, and a note will appear in a box, directing you to Wydam Village for Aldrich’s Key, detailed later in this guide.
Finding Osbern’s Key: Part 1
Brother Osbern was known to gaze “at the clouds and the stars, ”thus hints for his key are located in the northeastern corner of the map, particularly at the observatory.
While traversing to your destination, especially from the fishing village to the south, anticipate encounters with pirates or raiders; however, the observatory area itself is devoid of enemies, making it the simplest location for collecting the essence.
You’ll find the essence orb at the observatory’s lower section. After collecting it, a cutscene will ensue, revealing a note beside the fireplace that guides you toward Casterfall Woods, discussed in Part 2.
Consider climbing to the top of the observatory for an Easter egg, a scenic ocean view, and to gather some provisions before embarking on your journey to hunt for the keys.
Finding Lantfred’s Key: Part 2
Now, to locate Lantfred’s Key as hinted in Part 1, head to Skethermoor, specifically towards the circle of standing stones.
Previously familiar players of the game will know what challenges await—largely featuring protocol soldiers. If you haven’t previously engaged with them, they should be friendly.
The circular stone formation resides near the back of a soldier outpost. If you encounter hostilities, remain alert, as the combination of agents and patrolling B. A.R. D robots could lead to intense combat scenarios.
Upon your arrival at the standing stones, your enhanced metal detector will signal for the hidden stash, which remained inaccessible before the DLC update.
Upon locating the stash within the stone circle, you will acquire Lantfred’s Key alongside a note that expands on the lore.
Finding Aldred’s Key: Part 2
The hint from Part 1 for Aldred’s Key directs us to a river within Wyndham Village. This river conveniently connects to the ocean near the ferry location, making access effortless from the DLC entrance.
Head upstream to find your spot; simply crawl under the metal gate to access the secluded area containing Aldred’s Key.
If you’re in need of additional guidance, locate the danger-marked fence shown above; it indicates your proximity to the required location. This section also connects to the sewers of Slatten Dale, providing an alternative entry point to Wyndham, though it’s not necessary to reach the key.
While within this marked area, your metal detector should again signal, leading you to Aldred’s Key and another note elaborating on the lore.
Finding Osbern’s Key: Part 2
Lastly, uncovering Osbern’s second key location proves to be rather intricate, guiding us deep into Casterfall Woods, a significant area within the quarantine zone.
This setting features another circle of standing stones, recognizable for their historical significance as the druid camp’s focal point, necessitating extra caution to avoid patrolling druids along the approach.
You may recognize this area from previous quests as it is adjacent to the speaking cave visited for Mother Jago and Captain Grant Sims’ storylines.
While the final key is not within the stone circle itself, it’s positioned near its edge, as indicated in the preceding image. Should you encounter difficulty, explore the perimeter until your metal detector signals.
When you obtain this stash, you’ll receive Osbern’s Key, allowing entry into the Abbey’s lower crypt, along with another note featuring additional lore.
Locating Father Abbot’s Crypt Key
The final crypt key, belonging to Father Abbot, presents either a significant challenge or a straightforward task, largely dependent on your commitment to the quest.Unlike the others, this key is located within a cave beneath the orchards, adjacent to the druid camp southwest of the island.
You might uncover minor clues about the key in Father Abbot’s residence. However, accessing this final key involves a linear journey around the druid camp. Be advised, the cave will house numerous foes, requiring you to eliminate the druids obstructing your path.
Upon entering the cave, brace yourself for one of Atomfall’s most visually stunning environments. If you navigate it like a dungeon, finding the key becomes a much simpler task, though staying oriented amid the cavern’s twists and turns can be challenging.
While the path is relatively straightforward, the dungeon is densely populated with druids. Prepare adequately, equipping throwables and resources to facilitate your progress.Your quest is to navigate as far back and upwards within the cavern as possible.
As you delve deeper into the cave, you’ll encounter several bridges and more druids to defeat. Once reaching a camp area, you may struggle to decide the next move.
As depicted in the previous image, seek a slit in the wall behind some druid dwellings; navigating through this opening will lead you to the ultimate key location.
Here, your enhanced metal detector will reactivate, and the appearance of a white essence orb will trigger yet another cutscene, enriching the narrative around the Abbey and its monks.
After collecting all the crypt keys, make your way to the Abbey’s heart to unveil the mysteries hidden within the Abbey’s Crypt.However, from this point forward, your choices will lead you through various questlines and endings, concluding this guidance.
