In a questionable turn of events, customers are set to pay nearly 90% above the standard price for the GeForce RTX 5080, under the impression that they’re purchasing a GPU embellished with real gold. However, pragmatically speaking, the embellishment is merely a metallic finish.
ASUS Introduces ROG Astral RTX 5080 Dhahab CORE Near RTX 5090 Price Point—No Actual Gold
ASUS seems to constantly push the envelope regarding GPU marketing. The company’s latest offering, the ROG Astral RTX 5080 Dhahab CORE, is launching at a staggering price that significantly exceeds its competitors. Initially positioned for the Middle Eastern market, the graphics card is being reported at around $2, 600 by a UAE retailer, raising eyebrows due to its lack of authentic gold elements, as indicated by ASUS’s own website.
While ASUS details the luxurious characteristics of the Astral RTX 5080 Dhahab CORE on its official site, it conspicuously omits any mention of actual gold plating. In stark contrast to the Astral RTX 5090 Dhahab OC edition, which boasts 6.5 grams of real gold, the 5080 variant appears to be wholly metallic, merely designed to glitter. Nevertheless, it retains an alluring Middle Eastern theme and features a factory-overclocked chip capable of achieving a boost clock speed of 2790 MHz in OC mode.

The real shocker, however, may not be the absence of genuine gold but the price tag of $1, 899 in the U. S.and a staggering $2, 300 in China. This new GPU is priced within $100 of the official MSRP for the GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition, and astonishingly, nearly 90% higher than the authorized MSRP of the GeForce RTX 5080. Such pricing strategies indicate ASUS’s preference for high-end designs over reasonably priced options for gaming enthusiasts.

In a recent showcase, ASUS also introduced an RTX 5090 adorned with 5 kg of real gold, valued at over $500, 000. Thankfully, that model is intended only for a select few. However, the Astral ROG RTX 5090 Dhahab is already available at an outrageous price exceeding $9, 000. While the regular ROG Astral RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 are priced at a significant premium, the new RTX 5080 Dhahab CORE stands out as the most exorbitant version currently on the market. This GPU can be acquired through official channels such as the ASUS Store and Micro Center.
