With the recent advancements in DDR5 memory technology, users can now successfully mix and match different memory modules on the latest Intel platforms. This development ensures enhanced tuning capabilities without the usual concerns about compatibility issues.

As DDR5 RAM prices soar to unprecedented levels, many users are gravitating towards JEDEC industry standard RAM modules, which often offer lower base clock speeds compared to popular Intel XMP or AMD EXPO memory options. These JEDEC modules comply with stringent specifications, ensuring fixed frequency, timing, and voltage settings. Unlike XMP and EXPO modules, most JEDEC RAM lacks heatsinks, earning them the moniker of “green”RAM. However, users can still manually overclock these modules to exceed their established clock speeds.

It’s important to use compatible memory modules to ensure stable performance. When mixing different JEDEC RAM modules with varying specifications, compatibility obstacles can arise. To address this, ASUS has released BIOS updates 3002 and 3103 for their Intel Z890 and B860 motherboards. Currently, it appears that only the Intel LGA 1851 platform is benefiting from these updates, and ASUS has not confirmed similar support for AMD platforms at this time.

The ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile (AEMP) has transformed the memory landscape on Intel motherboards, allowing users to mix various JEDEC RAM modules seamlessly. The latest AEMP II and III profiles enable users to combine different “green”modules without the need for XMP profiles on the same motherboard, automatically optimizing the settings. AEMP II caters to U-DIMM while AEMP III targets CU-DIMM DDR5 memory modules.

Users can access the optimization feature by navigating to the Extreme Tweaker > AI Overclocker Tuner menu and selecting either AEMP II or III, based on the type of DIMM installed. It is vital to note that U-DIMM and CU-DIMM types cannot be mixed, but different specifications within the same family are entirely compatible. The optimization process typically lasts about five minutes, with AEMP II/III automatically configuring the RAM settings. ASUS demonstrated this process by successfully combining various JEDEC DDR5 modules on the ROG Maximus Z890 Extreme motherboard.

The memory setup incorporated various capacities, including 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB, and 24 GB modules. By selecting AEMP II/III, the system thoroughly analyzed all components—motherboard, CPU, and RAM specifications—to determine optimal frequency, timings, and voltages. Ultimately, the DRAM transfer speed was configured to 5200 MT/s, surpassing the original 4800 MT/s rating of the 8 GB Samsung module.
