ASUS has officially launched the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme, its premier AMD AM5 motherboard tailored for high-performance enthusiasts.

While the ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme was anticipated in the tech community, the official unveiling took place during a recent ROG event in China. ASUS introduced the motherboard’s impressive specifications, pricing, and anticipated availability, confirming much of what had been speculated.
The design of the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme reflects sophistication with its E-ATX form factor. The aesthetic combines an all-black color scheme highlighted by silver accents. This motherboard boasts robust power delivery, featuring a sophisticated 20+2+2 phase VRM configuration rated at 110A, supported by dual 8-pin EPS power connectors.
The motherboard includes four DDR5 DIMM slots with the capacity to support up to 256 GB, achieving remarkable speeds of 8200+ MT/s. An additional feature is the ROG Q-DIMM.2 slot located adjacent to the memory slots, capable of accommodating an add-in card with dual M.2 sockets.
Regarding expansion capabilities, the ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme is equipped with two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and includes at least five M.2 slots (three physical along with two Q-DIMM).The primary M.2 slot is notable for its large heatsink with an integrated heat pipe and an EZ release mechanism, while the remaining M.2 slots are situated under a comprehensive heatsink and cover that extends toward the platform controller hub (PCH).A distinctive 3D Vapor Chamber design graces the top M.2 slot, ensuring superior cooling for high-performance Gen 5 SSDs.
In addition to thermal management solutions for VRMs, which feature substantial heatsinks with heat pipe cooling, the motherboard’s I/O cover incorporates a 5-inch LCD display for customization options. The rear of the motherboard is equipped with various overclocking and tuning features, including a DEBUG LED, FlexKey, and a Power On/Off button, alongside multiple right-angled connectors. Front panel USB connections comprise options for 20G, 10G, and two 5G ports, ensuring extensive connectivity.
The motherboard also showcases a robust backplate, with its rear I/O configuration featuring a 7.1-channel high-definition audio jack, a WIFI7 port, dual LAN options (10GbE and 5GbE), four USB Type-C ports (two 10G and two 40G), various USB Type-A ports, and HDMI, in addition to BIOS and Clear CMOS buttons.
As for its retail availability, the ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme motherboard is scheduled to launch by the end of April, priced at 9999 RMB in China, which translates to approximately $1400 USD.
