ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 Boosts TGP to 450W via BIOS Update

ASUS has unveiled a significant BIOS update for its GeForce RTX 5080 ROG Astral graphics card, elevating the Total Graphics Power (TGP) to a robust 450W.

ASUS Boosts Power Limits for ROG Astral RTX 5080 with New BIOS Update

In a move that showcases its commitment to harnessing the ROG Astral variants’ capabilities, ASUS has rolled out a BIOS update that amplifies the TGP rating by 50W. The new specification places the GeForce RTX 5080 ROG Astral at a TGP of 450W, outstripping the baseline models significantly. This adjustment underscores ASUS’s understanding that the performance potential of the ROG Astral is substantial, and they are keen to leverage that by increasing the power limits.

Released on March 14, the update primarily focuses on enhancing the power limit. Although ASUS has not publicly detailed the motivations for this increase, it appears to be a strategic move aimed at positioning the ROG Astral model as a leader in the high-performance GPU market, thereby maximizing performance output through higher power allowances.

Notably, the only other GPU model with a TGP of 450W in this category is Gigabyte’s GeForce RTX 5080 Gaming, a curious choice since it doesn’t position itself as a high-end variant. With the updated specifications, the ROG Astral RTX 5080 stands apart, promising enhanced power capacity right out of the box.

Despite this increase in TGP, the performance gains are expected to be modest, likely ranging from 2% to 5%.Therefore, while this upgrade may not translate into substantial performance improvements, it is nonetheless an exciting development in the competitive landscape of high-end graphics cards, where options are becoming increasingly scarce.
