The ASUS B850M AYW is emerging as a formidable contender in the overclocking arena, and it may even outshine the MSI B850MPOWER.
Unleashing DDR5 Memory: An Impressive 8800 MT/s with CL34 on ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC WiFi
Both MSI and ASUS have rolled out impressive budget overclocking motherboards, with the MSI B850MPOWER pegged at a competitive price point of $259. In our assessment, it delivers remarkable overclocking potential that rivals more expensive X870E chipset motherboards. However, the ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC WiFi is poised to take on that challenge at an even more attractive price.

Although the ASUS B850M AYW has yet to hit the retail shelves, we already have tantalizing performance figures thanks to early reports by @unikoshardware. Enthusiasts on social media have demonstrated the motherboard’s capability for memory overclocking, successfully achieving an astonishing 8, 800 MT/s with low latency. This feat was accomplished using a Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with a 48 GB DDR5 RAM kit, resulting in stable performance at these high frequencies.

The B850M AYW utilizes a dual DIMM configuration known as 1SPC (one slot per channel), enabling each memory module to have its own dedicated channel for heightened speed and reliability. This arrangement mirrors that of the MSI B850MPOWER, as well as several high-end X870E motherboards that also prioritize outstanding memory performance. Remarkably, the AMD user achieved 8, 800 MT/s using a 2x 24 GB DDR5 setup, which is particularly noteworthy among AM5 platforms, especially in the budget segment.

Additionally, the user reported pushing memory speeds to 10, 400 MT/s at CL50-60-60-127 while working with a Ryzen 5 8500G, which is still an impressive achievement. It’s important to note that this result was attained using a stock cooler, although the initial overclocking figures may have involved specialized cooling solutions such as chillers for the CPU and RAM.

The ASUS B850M AYW Gaming OC is constructed with attention to detail, featuring short signal traces and high-quality PCBs to minimize signal degradation. The memory VRM system appears robust, although its efficacy in CPU overclocking remains to be fully tested. We anticipate that it will closely compete with the MSI B850MPOWER; however, with a projected retail price below $200, ASUS may come out on top. This motherboard is expected to launch in October and will also include the Q-CODE feature along with onboard OC buttons for enhanced user experience.
