Astonishing Scam in the Philippines: Mayor Duped into Buying PC for $175,000 Instead of Just a Few Hundred Dollars

According to a post shared on the PCMasterRace subreddit, which references a Facebook user named Ukc Ibrahim, a former mayor reportedly shelled out 10 million Philippine pesos (approximately $175, 000) for a PC that likely resembles something worth under $1, 000.

The current mayor has brought up the possibility of a “corrupt deal”concerning this incident. However, we will refrain from delving into those allegations for the moment. Visuals of the PC build suggest that it certainly does not justify the staggering price tag. The configuration appears to include a dedicated HDD mounted at the front of the case, housed within a compact mATX-compatible chassis. The processor is likely from Intel’s Alder Lake series or newer, given that it features a contemporary stock cooler, possibly one of the RH1 or RM1 models.

Additionally, the setup includes an ASUS PRIME H610-R mATX motherboard paired with a CVS 750W power supply, notably lacking a discrete graphics card. It is suspected that the RAM could be G. Skill’s Ripjaws, with configurations ranging from 16 GB to 32 GB. Collectively, these components indicate that the total value of the build is well below $1, 000. This suggests that the former mayor was charged almost 200 times the appropriate price for the PC.

The absence of thorough background checks and due diligence in purchasing government equipment is concerning and highlights the political implications surrounding this purchase.
