Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release Pushed Back Again

Update on Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows now has a revised release date of March 20, 2025.
  • The game was initially scheduled to debut on February 14, 2025.
  • Ubisoft has cited the integration of player feedback as a reason for the delay.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has undergone another postponement, with Ubisoft shifting its anticipated launch to March 20, 2025. This delay comes as the development team seeks to integrate player feedback into the game, enhancing its quality and depth. Initially slated for release in November, the game had previously been rescheduled to February 14 before this most recent announcement.

The first delay was made public in late September 2024, when Ubisoft moved the initial launch date from November 15 to February 14. While Ubisoft’s initial reasoning lacked specific details, the company highlighted that the three-month postponement was essential for the game’s development.

This latest delay, unlike the previous one which was tied to concerns regarding cultural and historical accuracy raised by Ubisoft Quebec, focuses on addressing fan feedback. According to a statement from Marc-Alexis Coté, Vice President Executive Producer for the Assassin’s Creed series, the studio is committed to creating a high-quality and immersive gaming experience, which is facilitated by sustained communication with the player community. Coté echoed that similar to the first delay, this additional time will allow for further refinement and polishing of the game.

In response to the first delay, Ubisoft offered refunds for pre-orders of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and promised that future pre-orders would provide players complimentary access to the game’s initial planned expansion. As of now, Ubisoft has not indicated whether similar incentives will be offered for this new five-week delay; however, it is likely that this shorter setback will generate less dissatisfaction among players compared to the previous three-month shift.

This additional postponement may also align with Ubisoft’s internal review process announced over three months ago, aimed at enhancing their games’ focus on player experience. Despite maintaining a solid position within the gaming industry, Ubisoft has faced disappointing sales and substantial losses in the 2023 fiscal year, prompting a reevaluation of their strategies. The decision to delay Assassin’s Creed Shadows for further player input could be a strategic move to reinforce their commitment to a player-centric development approach.
