Ubisoft’s Q1 2025 Financial Results Showcase Assassin’s Creed Shadows Success
During the recent release of its Q1 2025 financial report, Ubisoft announced impressive milestones for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Originally attracting 3 million players by the end of March, the game has now exceeded 5 million unique players. This growing player base has collectively executed over 2 billion stealth kills, traveled 1 billion kilometers, and interacted with 38 million animals in the game.
Challenges Amidst Achievements
Despite these achievements, Ubisoft’s quarterly financial results indicated lower net bookings than expected. The primary factor contributing to this was challenges faced by Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot provided insights into the mixed outcomes:
The first quarter delivered mixed results. On the positive side, Assassin’s Creed Shadows delivered on its expectations, with now more than 5 million unique players since its launch, and Rainbow Six Siege X received highly positive player feedback thanks to its renewed gameplay and enhanced features that drove significant player engagement growth. However, player spending in Rainbow Six Siege faced temporary but significant disruptions due to technical pricing issues, which have now been identified and addressed. Despite this one-off setback, the growth potential of the game is strong with solid traction on activity and in-game spending.
Guillemot highlighted two other reasons for the decline in net bookings: a partnership expected to materialize in Q2 and a less significant impact from unfavorable foreign exchange rates.
Strategic Developments and Future Plans
In a move to fortify creative direction and enhance business outcomes, Ubisoft announced plans for the establishment of so-called Creative Houses. The aim is to cultivate innovative ideas and strengthen brand performance. The first of these units focuses on overseeing major franchises like Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed. Christopher Derennes and Yves Guillemot’s son will be at the helm of this new subsidiary.
Anticipated Content for Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Looking ahead, Ubisoft reaffirmed that the much-anticipated expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, titled Claws of Awaji, is scheduled for release in fiscal Q2. This expansion promises to deliver over 10 hours of new gameplay, alongside exciting new weapons, skills, and abilities. Reports suggest a potential launch in September, although an official confirmation from the publisher is awaited.
