Assassin’s Creed: Shadows – Choosing Between Yaya and Mitsumune

As Naoe embarks on her quest to uncover her destiny in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, she faces a pivotal moral dilemma that shapes her character throughout the narrative. Will she align with the compassionate monk Yaya, who advocates for forgiveness, or the revenge-driven warrior Mitsumune, who seeks retribution against Nobunaga’s soldiers?

Consideration of this choice not only influences the story but also presents a chance to recruit a formidable ally, adding both strength and support during challenging conflicts.

Choosing Between Yaya and Mitsumune in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

With her primary target eliminated, Naoe finds herself among allies reflecting on their hard-earned victory, but tensions are escalating between Yaya and Mitsumune.

Mitsumune, still reeling from a family rift and the tragic loss of friends during Nobunaga’s assault on his temple, adamantly advocates for vengeance against the militia formerly under the tyrant’s command.

Conversely, Yaya contends that, despite the atrocious acts committed by Nobunaga’s forces, true peace can only be achieved through forgiveness.

When Naoe is presented with the opportunity to weigh in, she can opt for either mercy or vengeance. Adding intrigue to the situation, players are warned that their decision will “impact Yaya”.

If Naoe Chooses to Forgive the Soldiers:

  • Mitsumune’s men will execute the captured soldiers anyway, leading Yaya to leave the battlefield in frustration.
  • However, Naoe will embark on a subsequent quest to reconnect with Yaya, where she can be recruited as a valuable ally, depending on the choices made thereafter.

If Naoe Chooses Revenge:

  • The soldiers will be executed, prompting Yaya to exit the scene, visibly disgusted.
  • While the same quest to seek out Yaya remains, convincing her to join Naoe will be significantly more challenging due to prior actions, and she may refuse to ally with the team in the hideout.

In light of this, aligning with Yaya to promote forgiveness is a more favorable strategy. Although the immediate circumstances may play out similarly, the reputation gained with Yaya proves beneficial for the overall narrative.

How to Transform Yaya into a Battle Ally

Post-battle, players will initiate the “Stray Dog”quest to locate Yaya in the southern region of Sakai.

Proceed to her location and aid during the ensuing melee. Afterward, it is crucial to maintain a stance of forgiveness towards the temple robber, as these dialogue choices have a significant impact on the quest’s outcome and Yaya’s willingness to join Naoe.

Next, follow Yaya northward to the Church of Takatsuki, situated just south of Takatsuki Castle.

Once you find Tetsuo within a house on the church grounds, you’ll need to chase him through the streets. When Yaya intervenes, encourage her to practice the forgiveness she advocates.

If Naoe supported the captured soldiers, extended forgiveness to the temple robber, and assisted Yaya in overcoming her resentment towards her brother, she will recognize shared values and consent to join Naoe in the hideout.

This successful negotiation unlocks Yaya as a battle ally. She not only engages enemies alongside Naoe but also provides ongoing support. To summon her during gameplay, hold L2 to bring up the ally wheel, then press Triangle (default setting) for assistance during challenging encounters.
