Positive Reception for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Ubisoft’s latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is experiencing a successful launch, marking a significant achievement for the famed French publisher. Just hours after its debut, the game, set in feudal Japan, attracted over one million players. Now, two days post-launch, that impressive figure has doubled, reaching two million players.
Surpassing Franchise Milestones
In addition to its strong player base, Shadows has outperformed the launch figures of two prior titles in the Assassin’s Creed series. It has eclipsed the numbers set by Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017), which introduced a shift toward RPG mechanics, as well as the widely acclaimed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018), a title that built upon Origins’ foundation.
🔥 2 MILLION PLAYERS! 🔥 We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone! Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey. Thank you for joining the journey in Feudal Japan! #AssassinsCreedShadows pic.twitter.com/a6YezXNtYI

Comparison to Previous Titles
Notably absent from this comparison is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a title that set nearly every record for Ubisoft since its release in 2020. Before the release of Shadows, Ubisoft indicated that pre-order sales were “tracking solidly, ”suggesting that initial interests were on par with those of Odyssey.
Player Access and Availability
While concrete sales figures for Assassin’s Creed Shadows have yet to be disclosed, Ubisoft’s messaging has consistently referred to “players, ”suggesting an inclusive count that may also consider subscribers of the Ubisoft+ service. This subscription model allows gamers to access the full RPG experience at a monthly cost of $17.99, a significantly lower price point compared to the standard retail price of $70.
Where to Play Shadows
Players can enjoy Assassin’s Creed Shadows across multiple platforms, including PC (via Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and the Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Apple Silicon Macs, and Amazon Luna.
