Assassin’s Creed Mirage makes surprise Steam debut and launches this month

Ubisoft is set to release another PC platform exclusive on Steam, with Assassin’s Creed Mirage being the latest title to make the switch. Initially launched in October 2023, the PC version has so far been restricted to the Ubisoft Connect store and the Epic Games Store, leaving Steam gamers eagerly awaiting its arrival. This situation is about to change.

Developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, Mirage is designed to return the franchise to its roots in stealth action, moving away from the RPG-style gameplay seen in recent iterations such as Assassin’s Creed Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. This installment emphasizes urban gameplay, with a notable resurgence of parkour, stealth mechanics, and assassination techniques. Initially conceived as an expansion for Valhalla, it eventually evolved into a standalone project with an enhanced scope.

The narrative is set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age, where players step into the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishaq. Fans of Valhalla may recognize Basim as a favored NPC who plays a significant role in various questlines. Starting as a street thief, Basim becomes a member of the “Hidden Ones”to combat the expanding Templar Order, ultimately adopting the life of an assassin.

Assassins Creed Mirage

The upcoming Steam version of Assassin’s Creed Mirage will feature platform-specific enhancements, including Steam achievements. However, as indicated on its new store page, it will include Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM and require a Ubisoft Connect account to play.

While a specific release date for the Steam version is not yet available, the store page suggests a launch window of October 2024.

This announcement comes as Ubisoft is restructuring its approach to releasing future titles. This shift is notably influenced by the unexpectedly low sales of Star Wars Outlaws, prompting a decision to launch all upcoming releases on Steam on the same day. Consequently, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which has seen delays, will also debut on Steam alongside other PC platforms in February.
