The launch of AMD’s most advanced workstation RDNA 4 GPU has begun, with board partners initiating shipments and revealing pricing details.
GIGABYTE’s Radeon AI PRO R9700 Hits the Market, While ASRock’s Variant Surfaces at Major Retailer
AMD has introduced its powerful Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPU, which was first showcased at Computex several months ago. It officially launched at the end of last month, but initial availability has been limited. Among the first to announce retail offerings was XFX, who made the GPU accessible through various system integrators. Thankfully, more board partners are now stepping up with their own variations, causing a distribution surge as AMD focuses on producing custom models rather than providing a reference edition.

A recent post on Reddit revealed that a user has successfully obtained the GIGABYTE Radeon AI PRO R9700. This card boasts a Turbo Fan and a blower-style cooling system, closely resembling AMD’s reference design. XFX is expected to offer similar aesthetics, alongside further models from other board manufacturers. The Redditor reported a base price of $1, 220 for the R9700, ultimately totaling $1, 324 after taxes and shipping fees.
Additionally, ASRock’s Creator Radeon AI PRO R9700 has now appeared on one of the major North American retail platforms priced at $1, 329 on Newegg. This model similarly features a blower-style design and comes with distinct Creator branding. While it is available for purchase, this listing currently places it at $130 above the GIGABYTE version, suggesting that these early prices may not reflect the official MSRP for the Radeon AI PRO R9700, as the unit is just starting to hit the retail market.

With pricing for these GPUs ranging between $1, 200 and $1, 300, the R9700 is considerably more expensive than AMD’s top-tier RDNA 4 gaming GPU, the Radeon RX 9070 XT. Both share key specifications such as 4, 096 Stream Processors, 128 ROPs, comparable TDPs, and identical GDDR6 memory running at 20 Gbps with a 256-bit interface. However, the significant difference lies in memory capacity, with the R9700 offering 32 GB compared to the RX 9070 XT’s 16 GB, thus making it particularly suitable for intensive productivity and AI tasks. Additionally, the AI PRO R9700 includes memory ECC support for Linux, which provides vital error detection and correction features.
Expect a growing number of R9700 models to flood the market soon, as various AMD board partners, including ASRock, ASUS, and Sapphire, have all announced their own custom editions.
