ARMYs Accuse YouTube of Sabotaging and Deleting Views for BTS Jin’s ‘I’ll Be There’ MV: “This is Disgusting and Unprofessional”
Jin’s New Single “I’ll Be There”Sparks Controversy Over YouTube Views
On October 27, Dolby Atmos unveiled an exclusive video featuring Jin from BTS, titled Love Jin More In Dolby, where he delivered a live performance of his latest single, I’ll Be There. This song serves as a pre-release track for his upcoming solo album, Happy, which is slated for release on November 15.
Rapid Success of Music Videos
In a related event, the official music video for I’ll Be There was launched on the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel on October 25. Within just nine days, the official MV amassed over 14 million views, while the Dolby Atmos video captured more than 13 million views in eight days. This impressive view count comes amidst questions regarding the disparity despite the HYBE LABELS channel boasting over 76 million subscribers compared to Dolby Atmos, which has only around 771,000.
The Controversy Unfolds
The BTS fandom, known as ARMY, expressed outrage over perceived discrepancies in view counts, prompting speculations that YouTube may have deleted views from Jin’s official music video. A fan voiced their frustration on social media, stating:
“Shame on you @YouTube @YouTubeCreators @youtubemusic Deleting the views from fans like this… Your bias is showing when you support only people that pay for your ads. This is disgusting and unprofessional.”
Many fans flooded social media with similar sentiments, tagging YouTube’s accounts and demanding explanations for the alleged view miscount. One fan noted:
“This is literally evidence no.1 we bring to the court. You’re telling me Dolby channel with 700k subscribers and HYBE channel with 76 MILLION subscribers can compete like this?”
The concerns escalated further, with users noting the incongruity between the likes and views on the videos. One fan exclaimed:
“The likes ratio DOES NOT match the views. YouTube obviously has been deleting views, they’re not even gonna hide it now??”
Accusations of Sabotage
Amidst these discussions, accusations of potential sabotage arose, suggesting that the lack of financial backing for ads from BTS might have influenced the view counts. A supporter commented:
“Since Bighit can’t fix YT’s robbery against BTS and BTS doesn’t want to pay for ads, partnering with a global brand seems like the only option for them on that platform.”
Other fans echoed the same frustrations, questioning the platform’s transparency in handling view counts, as one remarked:
“How many are there we have to fight for @YouTube to kindly not delete the views count?”
Chart Success Amidst Controversy
Despite the ongoing turmoil, Jin’s single I’ll Be There debuted at No. 1 on both the UK Official Singles Downloads and Singles Sales charts, as reported by the World Music Awards. Furthermore, it reached a remarkable No. 44 on the UK Official Singles chart, marking Jin’s highest entry to date. This is a significant improvement compared to his previous single, The Astronaut, which premiered at No. 61 in October 2022.
As of October 26, I’ll Be There topped the iTunes charts in over 64 countries and generated 4.6 million streams on Spotify on its first day, becoming Jin’s most successful solo entry on the platform, debuting at No. 9 on Spotify’s Daily Global Top Songs.
