Ariana Grande Issues Sincere Apology to Elvira Over “Disrespectful” Backstage Interaction Accusation
Ariana Grande recently expressed her regret for allegedly disregarding Cassandra Peterson, popularly known as Elvira, during a backstage encounter two years ago. The pop sensation found herself under scrutiny after the iconic horror figure revealed that Grande was her most disappointing celebrity interaction during a Q&A at Knott’s Scary Farm in California on October 18.
During her recounting, Elvira remarked that the “We Can’t Be Friends”singer brushed her off when Elvira asked for a photo together. This incident reportedly transpired backstage at one of Elvira’s performances, after she had generously provided Grande and her 20 guests with tickets and taken photos with them.
To further complicate matters, Elvira noted that Grande exited the venue even before the show commenced.
The narrative quickly gained traction online, leading Elvira to share a screenshot of an article detailing her experience with the pop star on her Instagram account. Upon seeing this post on October 21, Ariana Grande promptly apologized for “offending”Elvira, stating:
“I sincerely apologize for offending you so.”
The Grammy-winning artist also extended her gratitude to the horror icon for being “so nice”to her mother during their backstage meeting. Grande recounted her mother’s delight in meeting Elvira, describing her as “lovely.”
She mentioned that her mother might have a different outlook on the situation now amidst the ongoing controversy, but she planned to discuss it with her.
Ariana Grande emphasized that “we all have our days”and sent her affection to Elvira, recognizing her as “always our queen of Halloween.”
Ariana Grande clarifies her version of meeting Elvira after facing backlash for the perceived snub
As Elvira’s narrative about her encounter with Ariana Grande spread widely, the star of Hairspray Live! sought to defend her name by sharing her perspective. In a comment on Elvira’s Instagram post, Grande mentioned her lack of recollection regarding their meeting, attributing it to having an anxiety attack at that moment. She wrote:
“Disheartened to see this. I actually don’t even remember getting the chance to meet you because I had an anxiety attack.”
In addition, she sought to clear up any misunderstandings about her supposedly rude behavior by providing her account of the event, stating:
“To my memory, [I] left before the rest of my family (this was around 7 years ago and at the time I was really not great with being in public crowds and loud places).”
This isn’t the first time Ariana Grande has faced accusations of “diva-like”behavior. In a candid interview on Apple Music’s Zane Lowe Show in May 2020, she discussed the impact of media portrayal on her image.
The “God Is a Woman”artist revealed that she had refrained from interviews for an extended period because some media outlets often twisted her words or sought sensational headlines. Grande added:
“I would defend myself, and then people would be like, ‘Oh, she’s a diva.’ And I was like, ‘This doesn’t make any sense.’
She also highlighted the double standards that women, particularly those in her position, experience in the media, which prompted her to feel the need to temper her voice.
Currently, Ariana Grande is preparing for the premiere of the first installment of her film adaptation of Wicked, in which she stars as Glinda, The Good Witch. The movie is set to hit theaters in the US on November 22.
