The latest episode of Season 23 of Hell’s Kitchen aired on Thursday, October 17, 2024. Titled “In a Pickle,”Episode 4 showcased a special guest, Michelin-starred Chef Dan Barber, who joined Gordon Ramsay to assess the chefs’ pickling challenge.
Egypt claimed victory in this challenge, outperforming his rival Meghan and securing the win for the Blue Team. However, when it was the Red Team’s turn to deal with a cow manure punishment, contestant Whit exercised her Punishment Pass to swap places with Egypt. This move was welcomed by the Blue Team, who had not been fond of Egypt’s attitude.
As the episode progressed, Egypt faced difficulties with the appetizer preparations, making a series of errors. Although he recognized these mistakes, his teammate Lulu chose not to interfere. Despite various missteps from other chefs during dinner service, the Blue Team opted to put Egypt on the chopping block. Although he narrowly escaped elimination, viewers expressed their dissatisfaction with how he was treated.
Fans of Hell’s Kitchen took to X to share their thoughts on the Blue Team’s actions in this recent episode, claiming that Egypt’s presence posed a threat to the group’s dynamics, leading them to target him instead.
“They want to get rid of Egypt so badly! Are y’all intimidated?!”wrote a fan.
“Poor Egypt! First, he gets the short end of the stick with his team, and now he’s getting robbed of his first win,”tweeted another user.
Criticism against the Blue Team’s treatment of Egypt continued, with many fans arguing that he did not deserve to face elimination.
“Of course, they nominate Egypt—he could be their greatest asset if they allowed him to thrive. Lulu has value, too. The rest are just a group of jerks,”one user remarked.
“Egypt? Seriously? Cowards!”commented another.
“Lulu is praised for being loud and vocal, but Egypt is told to ‘tone it down.’ The Blue Team needs to admit they’re intimidated by Egypt,”wrote a different fan.
“Putting Egypt up for elimination over Joe is absurd!!! Egypt had ONE dish sent back, while Joe served undercooked meat at least 4 times!! What is wrong with the Blue Team?!”a user tweeted.
Another fan noted the disparity in treatment between Egypt and Lulu, who was not originally part of the Blue Team.
“The Blue Team is now engaging and communicating with Lulu, while they just discussed being less vocal. They need to just admit their disdain for Egypt,”a fan commented.
Others expressed their support for Egypt amidst the criticism he faced.
“I’m starting to notice how people of color often get labeled as ‘too much’ and ‘loud.’ I’m with Egypt on this,”wrote a user.
“The Blue Team may have a grudge against Egypt, but I believe he has the potential to go far. Don’t let them get to you, man. They’re just jealous of your success!”another reacted.
What transpired with Egypt in Hell’s Kitchen Season 23 Episode 4?
Upon returning to their quarters, the Blue Team voiced their concerns about Egypt’s confidence in the kitchen, criticizing his behavior. In response, Egypt vowed to “tone it down,”hoping his teammates would elevate their efforts in turn.
Before the pickling challenge commenced, Chef Gordon Ramsay called upon a Red Team member to join the Blue Team, aiming to balance team numbers. Several volunteers stepped up, with Lulu being selected as the first responder.
During the challenge, Egypt competed against Meghan from the Red Team, using pineapple and salmon for their pickles. After a hard-fought battle, Egypt triumphed, leading the Blue Team to a narrow 5-4 victory.
The winning team was awarded a luxury overnight stay on Grace Island, an exclusive private island with a stunning mansion, although Egypt missed out on this reward due to Whit’s use of her Punishment Pass to swap places with him.
The following day, as Hell’s Kitchen welcomed guests for dinner service, Egypt struggled at the appetizer station, making numerous mistakes, such as overcooking sauces and undercooking scallops. Despite being aware of his errors, Lulu opted not to intervene, wanting to avoid stepping on his toes. However, when Gordon pointed out Egypt’s faults, he instructed him to calm down and exhibit “a little finesse.”
After Joe from the Blue Team repeatedly served raw meat to guests, he and the rest of the team faced the consequence as Gordon kicked them out of the kitchen. Ultimately, despite Joe’s multiple blunders, the team nominated Egypt and Michael for elimination. In the end, Gordon sent Michael home, stating, “When a chef can’t look you in the eyes, you know they’re hiding something. Michael couldn’t mask the fact that he didn’t fit in here.”
