Laverne, famous for her role in Orange is the New Black, stumped all four judges—Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora—who failed to guess her identity. During her performance, she sang “I’m Every Woman”by Chaka Khan and hinted at her connection to Barbie, mentioning a Barbie doll named after her.
Viewers of The Masked Singer flocked to social media platform X to express their thoughts on the elimination of Chess Piece. Many fans were quick to connect the dots regarding Laverne’s identity.
Some guessed right even before the big reveal, while others were taken aback upon finding out.

Laverne Cox’s Final Performance as Chess Piece on The Masked Singer
In the previous episode, Laverne captivated the audience with her rendition of Cher’s “Believe.”She followed that up with another remarkable performance in episode 5, treating viewers to “I’m Every Woman”by Chaka Khan.
During her voiceover, Laverne shared her childhood experiences of being teased and pointed out. She expressed her long-standing fandom of Barbie, admitting that she wasn’t permitted to play with it, which deeply affected her. She stated:
“The criticism and scrutiny persisted over the years, leading me to question everything I valued about myself. I had to seize control of my own fate. The one item that helped me heal was the thing I always needed: Barbie.”
She mentioned that she continued to buy Barbies for herself ever since, reinforcing her belief that it’s never too late to reconnect with one’s childhood self. Laverne proudly revealed that Mattel now produces a Barbie modeled after her, stating that Barbie can embody any role, showing women that they too can become anything.
