Celebrating a Milestone: One Year of Ara: History Untold
It has been a full year since Oxide Games, renowned for its work on Ashes of the Singularity, released its inaugural 4X strategy game, Ara: History Untold. To commemorate this anniversary, the studio has rolled out a significant update known as Revolutions. This update is being hailed as a transformation to version 2.0, thanks to the extensive range of new systems and enhancements it incorporates.
Introducing the Culture and Influence Systems
Unveiled earlier this month, the Revolutions update brings exciting new features, with the most notable being the inclusion of the Culture and Influence systems. The addition of Culture introduces an innovative quality of life enhancement that creates a new in-game currency called Influence. Players can utilize this Influence to acquire various cultural traits and expand their territory, providing an alternative to purely military strategies.
New Units and Historical Features
Complementing these additions, the game introduces a novel unit type called Agitators, available once players reach the Renaissance age. As implied by their name, these units empower players to instigate rebellions in rival territories and ultimately seize control through the strategic application of Influence. Furthermore, this update includes unique per-nation historical units, enhancing gameplay by equipping each civilization with distinctive forces tailored for their campaigns.
Enhanced Gameplay Experience
The Revolutions update also features a comprehensive redesign of leaders, each boasting unique mechanics, traits, and abilities aimed at enriching diplomatic interactions. Additionally, improvements to the AI systems will make them more responsive to player actions. The map generation process has received a significant overhaul, and players can look forward to reduced micromanagement within production queues, thereby streamlining gameplay.
Expert Insights on the Update
Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock and Oxide, expressed enthusiasm regarding the update, stating, “We’re thrilled to introduce Culture as a gameplay element in Ara: History Untold. The significance of ‘soft power’ cannot be understated. While military conquest is the most direct route to territorial acquisition, we are committed to providing players with alternative strategic options to exert their influence globally. This approach becomes increasingly crucial in late-game scenarios when exploration and expansion are nearing their limits.”
Availability of the Update
The Ara: History Untold Revolutions Update, following a preview phase, is now accessible to all players on various platforms, including Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Game Pass.
