The company is collaborating with industry giants Samsung and LG to advance the new technology; however, recent developments indicate a standstill without clear timelines for breakthrough solutions. As it stands, the anticipated release of a zero-bezel model may be pushed well beyond the original 2026 target.

Unlike Samsung’s earlier Galaxy smartphones, which boasted curved screens, Apple plans to keep a distinctly flat screen in its bezel-less design. This approach, characterized by angular edges, aims to integrate the display seamlessly over the boundaries of the device, resembling the design aesthetics of the Apple Watch. Industry insiders predict that the final product will exhibit a pebble-like quality, enhancing its visual appeal.

Technical Hurdles for Suppliers

Their innovation involves two key processes: Thin Film Encapsulation (TFE) for OLED display protection, and Optical Clear Adhesive (OCA) for attaching and securing the display around its curved edges. In addition to ensuring a successful integration of these technologies, suppliers must also accommodate space for the iPhone’s antennas, further complicating the design process.
