Apple’s glass-centric future: exploring the innovative new glassy UI

Apple Set to Reveal Innovative UI at WWDC Event

During today’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple is expected to unveil a completely redesigned user interface (UI) that will be implemented across all its devices, including iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers. This fresh look takes significant inspiration from Apple’s visionOS, indicating a cohesive design language across their ecosystem.

Introducing the Liquid Glass Interface

Renowned tech journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has shared intriguing insights regarding Apple’s new UI, named “Liquid Glass.” This nomenclature not only reflects the aesthetic qualities of the design—characterized by a glossy, transparent surface—but also signifies Apple’s commitment to pioneering visual experiences.

Enhanced Visuals and Future Implications

The Liquid Glass interface promises to deliver striking “transparency and shine effects” that will enhance various user interactions, including toolbars and in-app controls. Gurman emphasizes that this new interface is not just a visual upgrade but a foundational element shaping the future of Apple’s products, particularly as we approach the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.

Exciting Prospects for the 20th Anniversary iPhone

Looking ahead, Apple anticipates releasing two groundbreaking devices in 2027, coinciding with the iPhone’s landmark 20th anniversary. The first will likely be the much-anticipated foldable iPhone. The second, however, is generating significant excitement: a dedicated glass-centric model that perfectly aligns with the new Liquid Glass UI.

According to Gurman, this anniversary iPhone, internally referred to as “Glasswing, ” will feature elegantly curved glass sides, ultra-slim bezels, and a seamless display with no interruptions for cutouts. The name itself evokes the beauty of a butterfly, resonating with the transparent, delicate qualities of the design.

“That 20th anniversary iPhone will expand on the glass concept. It will have curved glass sides around the entire phone, even at the edges. There will be extraordinarily slim bezels and no cutout section on the screen. Inside Apple, the 2027 iPhone is called the ‘Glasswing, ’ which refers to the type of butterfly with transparent wings.”

A Major Update with iOS 26

Apple’s forthcoming iOS 26 marks the most significant overhaul of the iPhone’s UI since the launch of iOS 7 in 2013. This redesign will also extend to various platforms, including iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, watchOS 26, and macOS 26. Notably, the “26” designation is a nod to the year 2026, reflecting Apple’s forward-thinking vision.

As we await the official announcements, it’s clear that Apple is strategically positioning itself for a transformative era in mobile technology, one characterized by beautiful aesthetics and enhanced functionality.
