Apple’s Foray into Foldable Devices: Speculations and Rumors
There is mounting speculation surrounding Apple’s potential entry into the foldable device market, with hints pointing towards the development of a book-style foldable iPhone. Industry rumor mills suggest that this innovative iPhone could come with a substantial price tag exceeding $2, 000—an expected cost for a premium Apple product.
The Possibility of a Foldable iPad Pro
Alongside the rumored foldable iPhone, there are whispers of a foldable iPad Pro model under development. Initial chatter about this device, featuring a bold 20-inch display, originated back in December 2024. Recent leaks have unveiled intriguing details regarding its specifications, generating excitement among tech enthusiasts.
Insights from Digital Chat Station
The revelation about the foldable iPad Pro comes from the well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS). According to a post shared on Weibo, DCS disclosed that the prototype includes an advanced under-display Face ID feature. This would allow for a seamless display experience, eliminating the need for a traditional Dynamic Island interface.
The leaker elaborated, “The engineering version has an 18.8-inch screen and uses a metal meta-lens. It mainly integrates Face ID Rx and Tx for under-screen 3D face recognition.”
However, this is the extent of the information shared by DCS. Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman speculated that Apple’s colossal tablet could hit the market by 2028, emphasizing the company’s desire to avoid a noticeable crease in the display, a common issue with foldable screens.
The Future of Under-Display Technology
The prospect of under-display Face ID technology isn’t new; it has been a topic of speculation for future iPhones over the years. If this leak reflects genuine advancements, it could indicate that Apple is on the verge of integrating under-display capabilities into its devices. Additionally, there are rumors about a foldable MacBook potentially launching between 2027 and 2028.
The Big Question: Which Foldable Will Come First?
As the rumors swirl, a critical question remains unanswered: Which foldable device will Apple introduce first—an iPhone or an iPad? Alternatively, it’s possible that Apple may delay its entry into the foldable market altogether. Only time will reveal Apple’s plans.
