Apple Debuts the New Apple Watch SE 3: Affordable Smartwatch with Enhanced Features
At the recent Awe Dropping event, Apple unveiled a refreshed version of its most budget-friendly smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE 3, alongside the more premium Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. This latest iteration introduces significant enhancements, notably the Always-On display, improved health monitoring capabilities, and faster charging features.
Performance and Specifications
In a surprising move, Apple has opted to equip the SE 3 with the older S10 chip, the same used in its higher-end models. This 64-bit dual-core processor, reinforced by a 4-core Neural Engine and 64GB of storage, ensures users benefit from speedy performance. The SE 3 is available in two case sizes—44mm and 40mm—and comes in stylish Starlight and Midnight color options.
Enhanced User Experience
The S10 chip brings about faster on-device interactions with Siri and speeds up tasks like starting workouts or setting timers, even without an internet connection. What’s more, Siri now integrates with the Health app, allowing users to access vital health data through voice commands. Notably, the watch supports innovative features such as Double Tap and wrist flick gestures for more fluid navigation.
Audio Features
A small yet valuable feature in the SE 3 is the ability to play music or podcasts directly from the device through its built-in speakers, fulfilling a common request from users.
Connectivity Options and Limitations
The Apple Watch SE 3 is loaded with an array of connectivity options, including Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi 4, GPS, and even 5G. However, it’s important to note that this budget-conscious model does not support Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology, which is crucial for features such as Precision Finding for AirTags.
Display and Durability
Featuring an Always-On Retina display with OLED and LTPO technology, the SE 3 promises a vibrant viewing experience. Apple claims that the unit’s Ion-X cover glass is four times more resistant to breakage than the previous generation.
Charging and Battery Life
One of the key upgrades includes fast charging capabilities—a first for the SE lineup. This smartwatch charges twice as quickly as its predecessor, providing up to 18 hours of regular use. Users can expect to reach 80% charge in about 45 minutes, while a quick 15-minute charge can deliver an additional eight hours of battery life.
Health Tracking Innovations
The Apple Watch SE 3 expands on its health features, including wrist temperature monitoring and sleep apnea notifications that have been carried over from earlier models. This year, Apple has also introduced a novel metric called Sleep Score, which offers insights into sleep quality, enhancing the health-tracking capabilities of the device.
Availability and Pricing
The Apple Watch SE 3 is now available for pre-order in over 50 countries, including the United States, the UK, Australia, France, Germany, and India. Starting at a competitive price of $249, the device will officially launch on September 19.
