Apple Vision Pro 2 expected release between Fall 2025 and Spring 2026
Apple’s Vision Pro: A Mixed Reality Journey
Following the February release of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset priced at $3,500, speculation emerged regarding a more affordable alternative. However, recent reports suggest that Apple has decided to postpone the launch of this budget-friendly headset, potentially delaying its arrival until after 2027. This decision comes in light of declining sales and lukewarm interest from developers in creating VisionOS applications.
Upcoming Developments: A New Generation on the Horizon
For those eagerly anticipating Apple’s latest technology, there is a silver lining. According to Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, a second-generation Vision Pro headset is reportedly in development. However, enthusiasts should temper their expectations, as this new model is not expected to debut until between autumn 2025 and spring 2026.
Shifting Focus: From Budget to Performance
Prior reports indicated that Apple had shifted its focus from a lower-cost Vision Pro model to prioritize the development of the second-generation headset. The upcoming version will see a significant enhancement in performance, transitioning from the existing M2 chip to the advanced M5 chip. This upgrade promises to deliver a substantial boost in capabilities.
Keeping Pace with Technology
When the Vision Pro was introduced, it featured the M2 chip, shortly followed by the unveiling of the M3 and M4 chips. Consequently, the Vision Pro felt somewhat outdated. This forthcoming upgrade is expected to refresh the product line, as the second-generation model is anticipated to launch alongside the first M5 Macs in 2024.
Design Continuity with Internal Improvements
According to Bloomberg, while Apple is exploring various concepts for its Vision headset line, the next iteration of the Vision Pro is likely to maintain a design closely resembling the current version. The forthcoming enhancements will primarily be internal, centering around the upgraded processor.
