Apple Updates MacBook Pro with New M4 Pro and M4 Max Models

This week’s third Mac-related announcement from Apple unveils an updated range of MacBook Pro laptops, following the earlier reveals of retooled iMac and Mac mini models.

The refreshed 14-inch and 16-inch laptops maintain the same design and form factor, with significant enhancements occurring primarily beneath the surface. The most notable update in this lineup comes in the form of new M4 Pro and M4 Max processors. Alongside these, there are various other subtle upgrades that differentiate the latest models from the previous generations.

The lineup begins with the M4-based MacBook Pro that now comes standard with 16GB of RAM, as the outdated 8GB option has been completely removed. This model can manage two external displays and is equipped with three Thunderbolt 4 ports. Higher-end configurations feature the option to upgrade to 14-core M4 Pro or 16-core M4 Max processors, along with up to 40-core graphics capabilities.

With the new processors’ enhanced efficiency, the latest MacBook Pro laptops are also boasting improved battery longevity. While the battery capacity remains the same, Apple assures customers of an extra two hours of web browsing and up to four additional hours for video streaming.

The latest Pro configurations also sport updated displays. Although the dimensions are consistent with earlier models, the peak brightness has been enhanced to an impressive 1,000 nits for SDR and 1,600 nits for HDR. Furthermore, buyers have the option to add a nano-texture finish to their MacBook Pro’s screen to minimize glare.

Additional upgrades include a new 12MP webcam featuring Center Stage functionality (retaining the notch) and Thunderbolt 5 compatibility, available in the M4 Pro and M4 Max variants.
