In a fully anticipated move, Apple has officially unveiled its latest budget model, the iPhone 17e. This new device, which retains the traditional notch design alongside enhanced specifications including a more powerful processor and modem, will maintain a competitive price point of $599.
Introducing the iPhone 17e

Design and Build Quality
The iPhone 17e marks a disappointing departure from prior expectations by opting against the modern Dynamic Island design. Instead, Apple has chosen to stick with the criticized notch aesthetic first introduced in the iPhone X back in 2017. This model features a vibrant Super Retina XDR OLED display capable of achieving a peak brightness of 1, 200 nits, while the notch accommodates the Face ID sensor and front camera.
The build includes a durable aluminum frame and is capped with a Ceramic Shield 2 front, promising enhancements in scratch resistance—up to three times better than its predecessors—and improved anti-glare capabilities. Users can choose from three appealing color options: white, black, and soft pink.
Power and Performance
At the core of the iPhone 17e is the new A19 chip, featuring a six-core CPU and a four-core GPU equipped with neural accelerators. Notably, the standard iPhone 17 model integrates an advanced A19 variant with a five-core GPU. Furthermore, the 17e’s upgraded 16-core Neural Engine is designed for robust performance with large generative AI models, ensuring faster processing compared to previous iterations.
Moreover, the device includes the C1X modem, which doubles the speed of the previous C1 modem found in the iPhone 16e while consuming 30% less energy than the modem in the iPhone 16 Pro. This modem also enables Apple’s satellite connectivity features, which include Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and satellite messaging capabilities.
Camera Technology
The iPhone 17e is equipped with a 48MP main camera that provides a telephoto effect, allowing users to capture stunning, high-resolution images. With the capability for 48MP shots and a standard 24MP mode, this device excels in photography. Apple emphasizes:
“iPhone 17e recognizes people, dogs, and cats, and automatically saves depth information, allowing users to turn photos into beautiful portraits with background blur after capture and to adjust the focus point in the Photos app. The latest generation of HDR captures subjects with true-to-life renderings of skin tones and ensures bright highlights, rich midtones, and deep shadows across the image — all while preserving fine details.”
Additionally, users can shoot videos in stunning 4K with Dolby Vision at frame rates up to 60fps, supplemented by Spatial Audio for an immersive experience, especially when paired with AirPods or the Apple Vision Pro.
Battery Life and Charging
The new budget-friendly iPhone is designed to last all day on a single charge, with the ability to recharge to 50% in roughly 30 minutes. It supports both MagSafe and the Qi2 protocol for rapid wireless charging at 15W, a notable upgrade from the 7.5W provided by the iPhone 16e.
Software Features and AI Innovations
Running on the latest iOS 26 with its Liquid Glass interface, the iPhone 17e incorporates various AI-driven features:
- Live Translation for Messages, FaceTime, phone calls, and compatibility with AirPods.
- Enhanced visual intelligence enables users to search, inquire, and interact with content on their screens.
- Call Screening offers protection against unsolicited callers by prompting the caller for the purpose of their call. Additionally, Hold Assist keeps the connection until an agent is available.
- In Messages, unknown sender messages can be filtered into a specific folder, streamlining your conversation view.
Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 17e is available in a 256GB version, priced at $599, or for a monthly payment of $24.95 over 24 months in the United States. Customers opting for the Apple Trade In program could receive up to $100 in credit when trading in an iPhone 11 or up to $195 for an iPhone 13. Pre-orders will begin on March 4, with the official store release set for March 11.
