Apple is set to unveil a bold redesign for its upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models, featuring a striking new camera bar on the rear. This aesthetic overhaul aims not only to rejuvenate the brand’s image but also to appeal to a fresh customer base. In conjunction with this new look, Apple will launch its own advanced chip, diverging from the previously utilized C1 modem associated with the iPhone 16e. Recent reports indicate that the entire iPhone 17 series will adopt Apple’s custom-designed WiFi 7 chip, promising ‘enhanced connectivity’ for users.

A recent post on X by analysts Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple intends to transition to its proprietary WiFi chips, aiming to significantly improve connectivity across its range of devices. Besides enhancing performance, this strategic shift is expected to reduce reliance on external chip suppliers, which could lead to cost savings for the company.

Currently, all iPhone models, including the iPhone 16e, utilize a combined WiFi and Bluetooth chip provided by Broadcom. However, Apple’s shift toward its custom chips is expected to commence swiftly, with plans to convert most of its product lineup over the next few years. Notably, it appears that the iPhone 17 family will be among the first to feature the new WiFi chips, though Kuo had initially indicated that only one model in the series would incorporate this technology.

Interestingly, Kuo also mentioned that the new chips will adhere to the specifications of “the latest WiFi 7, ” although details regarding technical specifications remain sparse. Contrasting this, another analyst, Jeff Pu, speculated in November that only the iPhone 17 Pro variants would receive the WiFi 7 upgrade, with the base models continuing to use existing standards. As the launch date nears, it remains to be seen if Apple might revise its strategy once again.

Understanding the implications of WiFi 7 in the iPhone 17 series is crucial for consumers.
