Apple Sports App Introduces Home Screen Widgets and Expands Globally

In conjunction with the recent launch of the latest iPhone models and the release of iOS 26, Apple has unveiled exciting new features for the Apple Sports app. This free application, designed to deliver real-time scores, stats, standings, and more, is now embracing Home Screen widgets across iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms.

Enhanced Accessibility with Widgets

Although the Apple Sports app is primarily available for iPhone users, Apple has integrated functionality that allows access to its Home Screen widgets on iPad and Mac devices, provided all devices are linked through the same Apple ID. This ensures a seamless experience for fans on various devices.

“Widgets give fans the ability to customize their iPhone Home Screen with their favorite teams and leagues. Widgets can also be accessed on iPad and Mac, giving fans scores and schedules for their favorite leagues and teams on even more platforms, ” Apple stated in a press release.

Customizing Your Experience

Adding a widget is straightforward for iOS users. Simply long-press an empty space on the Home Screen, select “Edit”in the upper-left corner, and then choose “Add Widget.”Within the Apple Sports widget options, users can select the “My Teams”view to receive timely updates on their favorite teams’ scores and upcoming schedules. Additionally, the “League”view allows fans to monitor scores and schedules from all teams within a particular league.

Apple emphasizes that users can personalize their widgets differently across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with no restrictions on the total number of widgets that can be displayed on the Home Screen.

Real-Time Updates and Live Activities

The app already incorporates the Live Activities feature, enabling users to view live scores directly on their Lock Screen and Apple Watch. Users can now also schedule Live Activities for upcoming events within the app, enhancing the experience with dynamic updates.

Expanding Coverage and New Markets

As the football season approaches, the Apple Sports app is extending its coverage to feature additional leagues. New support has been added for several European football competitions, including 2. Bundesliga, Ligue 2, Segunda División, Serie B, and Primeira Liga.

Initially launched in February 2024 to audiences in the US, UK, and Canada, the Apple Sports app is now expanding to eight new nations: Austria, Germany, France, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain. To take advantage of the latest features, users are encouraged to ensure that they are running the most recent software update along with the latest version of Apple Sports, version 3.3.
