Apple Set to Revitalize iPhone 5C Design for Apple Watch SE 3 Launch Later This Year

Apple is gearing up for an exciting year ahead, featuring the anticipated launch of the budget-friendly iPhone SE 4, which is slated for a significant redesign. In addition to this, reports reveal that Apple is also set to refresh another ‘SE’ product, the Apple Watch SE, which has maintained its original design since its debut. These developments hint at an evolution in Apple’s wearable tech offerings, potentially attracting a broader user base.

Anticipated Redesign for the Apple Watch SE 3

According to Mark Gurman’s latest insights in his Power On newsletter, the tech giant is working diligently on revamping the Apple Watch SE along with several other new products slated for release this year. While specific design features remain undisclosed, it is predicted that the new SE model will borrow aesthetic elements from more premium Apple Watch variants, while adopting a more economical plastic casing.

Back in September of the previous year, Gurman suggested that the upcoming Apple Watch SE might feature a plastic body akin to the iPhone 5c, a product from over a decade ago. This strategic shift could allow Apple to offer the budget smartwatch in a variety of colors, enhancing its appeal among younger demographics and potentially targeting the children’s market as an independent device. While Apple’s motivations are still unclear, reports suggest that the company might be navigating “cost and quality challenges”in transitioning from aluminum to plastic manufacturing.

Despite the uncertainties, Gurman affirms that Apple’s plans are progressing as intended. The current Apple Watch SE was launched in September 2022, successfully complementing the iPhone SE 3. With the iPhone SE 4 expected to unveil in the spring, it seems logical that the new Apple Watch SE will align closely with this release, as both devices are undergoing extensive redesigns, the iPhone SE 4 reminiscent of the iPhone 14.

If Apple does proceed with a plastic chassis for the new model, it’s reasonable to anticipate a price reduction compared to its predecessor. Along with this potential cost-saving, improvements to the internal components are likely, possibly incorporating either an S9 or S10 chip, promising enhanced performance and functionality.
