Apple’s Vision Pro Spatial Computing Headset Set to Launch in Taiwan

Apple’s much-anticipated spatial computing headset, the Vision Pro, is making its debut in Taiwan this December. The tech giant has officially announced the details surrounding the pre-order process and in-store availability through a press release.

Availability and Pre-Order Information

The Vision Pro will be available in retail stores and begin shipping to customers in Taiwan starting December 17. Interested buyers can pre-order the headset via Apple’s online store or through the Apple Store app, where they will find details regarding pricing for different configurations, as well as ZEISS optical inserts and other accessories.

Pricing and Accessories

Each Vision Pro headset ships with visionOS 2.1 pre-installed. The base model features 256GB of storage and is priced at NT$119,900. Additionally, customers can enhance their experience with optional accessories: ZEISS prescription optical inserts retail at NT$4,990, the Apple Vision Pro Travel Case is available for NT$6,790, and Apple Care+ can be added for NT$15,900.

Purchase Limitations and Personalized Experience

For those with a keen interest in acquiring multiple headsets, Apple has instituted a purchase limit of six Vision Pro units per customer. This policy is intended to foster a personalized shopping experience, as customers can now book one-on-one appointment sessions to try the headset prior to making their purchase.

Global Launch and Advanced Features

Initially introduced in the U.S. at a price of $3,499, the Vision Pro has since expanded to several additional markets, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK. A recent teardown analysis unveiled that this innovative device is equipped with two specially designed Lightning connectors, which are expected to bring unparalleled functionality.

Challenges and Future Developments

Despite its advanced features, cleaning the Vision Pro headset poses difficulties, and its lack of an internal battery limits its mobility. Furthermore, the device has yet to incorporate Apple’s latest AI capabilities, known collectively as Apple Intelligence. Notably, the headset currently lacks native applications for popular streaming platforms such as YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify, which could deter potential users.

Sales Expectations and Future Offerings

The reception of the Vision Pro has not matched Apple’s lofty expectations; reports indicate that the company may struggle to reach sales of 500,000 units by the close of this year. Furthermore, there have been discussions regarding a more affordable version of the headset, although this model is now anticipated to launch beyond 2027. In the meantime, Apple remains committed to enhancing the Vision Pro experience with immersive video capabilities and live sports offerings.
