Apple TV+ Rebranded as Apple TV: A New Era for Streaming
In a recent announcement, Apple revealed a significant rebranding of its streaming service, Apple TV+.The service will now be known simply as Apple TV. This change was discreetly noted in a press release detailing the upcoming global streaming debut of F1 The Movie on December 12, highlighting a strategic shift in the company’s approach to its streaming platform.
Apple TV+ is now simply Apple TV, with a vibrant new identity. Ahead of its global streaming debut on Apple TV, the film continues to be available for purchase on participating digital platforms, including the Apple TV app, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and more.
Navigating the Apple TV Ecosystem
Despite the renaming, Apple has yet to refresh the logo associated with the service. This adjustment adds to the existing complexity of the Apple TV ecosystem. To clarify:
- Apple TV (Hardware): Launched in 2007, this product line includes the latest models powered by the A15 Bionic chip, HDMI 2.1, and Wi-Fi 6 technology.
- Apple TV (App): This app serves as the hub for the Apple TV+ streaming service, purchased movies, and shows from iTunes, as well as content from other streaming subscriptions.
- Apple TV (Subscription Service): Originally branded as Apple TV+, this subscription service debuted in November 2019, focusing on exclusive “Apple Originals” content.
Spotlight on F1 The Movie
One of the key highlights of Apple Studios is F1 The Movie, which has emerged as a major theatrical success. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film prioritized authenticity, utilizing a unique camera system developed by Apple’s engineers. This system, designed to integrate an iPhone camera sensor with an A-series chip, was mounted onto actual F1 cars for truly immersive footage.
Apple’s marketing strategy for this film was notably aggressive, garnering attention during the WWDC 2025 event. However, it did face criticism earlier this year for sending promotional notifications through users’ Wallet apps.
Box Office Success
The investment in marketing and production appears fruitful as F1 The Movie has since become the “highest-grossing sports film” in history, amassing an impressive $629 million worldwide since its premiere.
As Apple continues to refine its streaming service, both the rebranding and the success of F1 The Movie signal its ambitions in the competitive landscape of digital entertainment.
