Apple Launches Final Cut Pro 11 with Exciting New Features

Today, Apple unveiled Final Cut Pro 11, the latest iteration of its flagship video editing software, introducing a range of innovative features designed to enhance user creativity and efficiency. Key updates include the Magnetic Mask tool, Transcribe to Captions functionality, and support for spatial video projects.

New Features to Enhance Video Editing

The Magnetic Mask feature allows users to effortlessly isolate subjects within video clips without relying on green screens or labor-intensive rotoscoping. This means editors can enhance their footage with ease by integrating this tool with color correction and various video effects.

Another prominent addition is the Transcribe to Captions feature, which utilizes an advanced Apple-trained large language model to automatically generate closed captions directly within the timeline. While this promises to streamline the editing process, the effectiveness of Apple’s speech-to-text capabilities will need to be assessed over time.

Expanded Support for Spatial Video

Final Cut Pro 11 now supports spatial video editing, a feature that allows users to import and edit footage recorded with various devices, including the Vision Pro and the new iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Pro. Camera enthusiasts can also use the Canon RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens paired with Canon R7.7 to capture immersive content, empowering professionals to enhance their spatial video projects with effects and color adjustments.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.1 and Updated Features

In addition to Final Cut Pro 11 for Mac, Apple has released Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.1. This version features significant enhancements, including Enhance Light and Color, Live Drawing inks, and haptic feedback functionality. Users will also gain access to new built-in content such as color-grading presets and dynamic soundtracks, further enriching the editing experience.

Final Cut Camera 1.1 Update

Apple has also upgraded its Final Cut Camera app to version 1.1 for iOS devices, bringing capabilities for recording at 4K120 fps on the iPhone 16 Pro. Users can now apply a preview lookup table (LUT) during recording and capture Log-encoded HEVC video, which significantly reduces file sizes.
