Apple has ambitious plans to enhance Siri and its artificial intelligence capabilities; however, it seems that the execution of these initiatives is proving to be more challenging than anticipated. Previously, there were indications that iOS 19 would launch with numerous AI enhancements, featuring upgrades to Apple Intelligence and a refined version of Siri. However, recent reports suggest that the rollout of significant iOS 19 features has been postponed, and a clear timeline for their release remains uncertain.
Delays in Major iOS 19 Features, Including LLM Siri
Earlier discussions hinted at an advanced iteration of Siri characterized by a more conversational tone compared to its current functionality. The newly anticipated LLM (Large Language Model) Siri was initially expected to debut with the iOS 19.4 update in 2026. However, Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter, has indicated that Apple is lagging in the development timeline for these transformative features.
Gurman further speculates that Apple will likely refrain from unveiling the new conversational Siri powered by a large language model at the upcoming WWDC event scheduled for June. This raises questions about whether the improved version of Siri will indeed launch with iOS 19 or be postponed until later. Originally expected to be integrated into iOS 19.4 or 19.5, the feature might now be included in the iOS 20 release. Interestingly, some Apple engineers anticipate that this updated Siri experience could arrive as part of iOS 20 in 2026.
Apple appears to be facing tough competition from emerging platforms like ChatGPT, which offer robust generative AI functionalities. Nonetheless, there are indications that Siri won’t be entirely devoid of updates this year. Analysts suggest that Siri will undergo significant internal improvements, enabling it to manage more complex inquiries effectively. Apple is cognizant of its slower development timeline; having previously integrated ChatGPT capabilities into Siri with iOS 18.2, users can leverage advanced generative AI tools until Siri evolves into a more capable digital assistant.
Moreover, Apple had intentions of introducing a wide array of features in the anticipated iOS 18.5 update, including contextual awareness and enhanced in-app integration. Although speculation arose regarding the update’s rollout alongside iOS 18.4, the company continues to experience delays in its software development processes. We will provide additional updates on iOS 19 and Siri’s forthcoming enhancements, so stay tuned for the latest information.
