Apple Now Considers iPhone 6 Plus is Now ‘Obsolete’ & iPad Mini 4 ‘Vintage’
Despite the fact that Apple has declared the legendary iPhone 6 Plus as obsolete and the iPad Mini 4 as vintage, they are still acknowledging and honoring these devices on their website by updating their labels and categories. This is a positive move, as it shows that Apple is not simply disregarding these older products like many other companies in the constantly evolving tech industry.
Saying Goodbye to the iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Mini 4: Apple’s Classic Move
Despite being released in 2014 and 2015 respectively, Apple has recently deemed the iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Mini 4 as obsolete and vintage, for those who are unaware.
For those who may be wondering about the reasoning behind Apple’s use of these terms, it is because they indicate certain limitations for a device. When a device is labeled as obsolete, it means that Apple will no longer offer hardware-related services, including repairs from either Apple or authorized providers. As for vintage status, this is given to devices that have been on the market for over five years. This applies to both the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPad Mini 4.
Despite being a potential disappointment for many Apple users, I personally don’t know anyone who still uses an iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone Mini 4. As a result, it is logical for Apple to classify these devices as obsolete and vintage. However, it is important to note that being labeled as vintage does not necessarily mean that parts are unavailable. Third-party repair services may still have access to older parts, providing some hope for those with these devices. Nonetheless, it is unclear what purpose one would have for such an outdated device in the first place.
