Apple launches watchOS 11 featuring overnight vitals tracking and activity ring pause functionality

watchOS 11, the latest iteration of Apple’s operating system specifically designed for its smartwatches, is now officially available to the public after several months of beta testing.

This exciting new version introduces the highly requested feature allowing users to pause their activity rings without disrupting their streaks. Apple provides options to pause activity tracking for a day, week, month, or even longer, making it ideal for those who may be ill or injured and need to take a break. Additionally, watchOS 11 enables users to customize activity goals for each day of the week.

Each morning, your Apple Watch can display the new Vitals UI, which showcases comprehensive data about your body collected during sleep. Another useful feature, the Training Load UI, allows you to monitor your workouts and assess their long-term impact on your body.

There’s a revamped Photos watch face that utilizes machine learning to evaluate your images and choose the best ones, providing a stunning watch face experience.

Additional updates in watchOS 11 include enhanced pregnancy tracking features and a smarter Smart Stack that automatically sorts widgets based on time, location, and more. In terms of widgets, watchOS 11 introduces weather alerts, Training Load, Photos, Distance, and Shazam widgets. The Apple Watch is now capable of tracking distance and routes for a wider range of workouts, including rowing. Moreover, two new apps—Tides and Translate—are also included.

To update your Apple Watch to the latest version of watchOS, you will need an iPhone Xs or newer, which is compatible with iOS 18. Ensure that your iPhone is updated to iOS 18 first; then navigate to the Watch app > General > Software Updates to complete the process.
