Apple Is On Google And OpenAI’s Disposal For An AI-Powered Chatbot In iOS 18, As Company’s Own Version Remains Unlikely
Yesterday, Apple revealed that it plans to hold the highly anticipated WWDC 2024 event on June 10. During this event, the company will unveil the latest version of its operating system, iOS 18, as well as updates for all its products. As previously reported, this year’s WWDC is expected to showcase Apple’s long-awaited AI features for the iPhone, Mac, iPad, and other devices. However, the release of iOS 18 will not include Apple’s own ChatGPT-like chatbot.
Apple’s AI-Powered Chatbot in iOS 18: A Dynamic Partnership with OpenAI, Google, and Baidu
Earlier, it was revealed that the company was in discussions with Google, OpenAI, and China’s Baidu to incorporate their generative AI technology into the iPhone. Although specific terms of the agreements have not been disclosed, it has been confirmed that the company’s proprietary chatbot will not be included in iOS 18. Instead, Apple is looking to integrate generative AI-powered chatbots from Google and OpenAI, while their own chatbot will not be part of the platform until further notice.
It should be noted that these are only speculations, and Apple may potentially unveil its own chatbot at its WWDC 2024 conference alongside the announcement of iOS 18, which is expected to include numerous AI-focused features for the iPhone. According to renowned industry analyst Mark Grman from Bloomberg, who shared the information, AI is likely to be the main focus of the event in regards to upcoming software updates.
Along with a ChatGPT or Google Gemini-inspired chatbot, the upcoming iOS 18 update is set to introduce numerous design modifications and new features. We anticipate that the company will enhance Siri with advanced AI capabilities, enabling it to better rival the voice assistants of Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and ChatGPT.
Apple is currently developing ways to improve the Spotlight Search feature on the iPhone by implementing generative AI technology. This will allow users to conveniently search both on their device and the web directly from the Home Screen. While the specific features for iOS 18 are still unknown, it would be logical for the company to continue enhancing the iPhone’s capabilities in a similar fashion.
Although Apple is behind in the AI game, it is yet to be determined how the company will implement its own version of the technology and execute it effectively by creating suitable use cases. We have received reports that Apple intends to incorporate AI into its stock apps on the iPhone, such as Messages, Apple Music, Notes, Pages, Numbers, Keynotes, and others.
