Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has unveiled intriguing insights regarding the high-end variant of the iPhone 18, likely called the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to Kuo, this model could incorporate a variable aperture main camera, a feature that was first showcased by Samsung.
Samsung pioneered this innovative technology with its Galaxy S9 series back in 2018, a feature later embraced by other major brands such as Huawei, OPPO, and Xiaomi. Notably, recent flagship devices from Huawei and the new HONOR Magic 7 series also utilize variable aperture cameras, marking a significant advancement in mobile photography.
Enhanced Photography Capabilities
Kuo emphasizes that the adoption of a variable aperture camera would represent a substantial enhancement for the iPhone photography experience. Currently, most smartphones are equipped with fixed apertures, which can limit performance. A variable aperture allows the camera to adjust its lens opening based on lighting conditions, thereby improving image quality across various environments.
Suppliers for the New Technology
In terms of manufacturing, Kuo suggests that Sunny Optical will serve as the primary supplier for this advanced shutter technology, with Luxshare as a secondary partner. This marks a notable move given Sunny Optical’s extensive experience in designing and producing variable aperture cameras for Android manufacturers.
