Apple Introduces Anti-Reflective, Scratch-Resistant Display for iPhone 17 Pro Models, Competing with Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Superior Screen Durability and Outdoor Clarity

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series has set a new standard with its anti-reflective display coating, effectively reducing glare in bright sunlight and enhancing the overall user interface. In contrast, the current iPhone 16 models continue to exhibit significant reflections, distorting visuals due to their glass-like surfaces. However, Apple is making strides to address this issue by reportedly integrating similar technology into its upcoming flagship models. After previously struggling with manufacturing hurdles, new insights suggest that the anti-reflective and scratch-resistant display will now debut in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air to Miss Out on Anti-Reflective Display, Exclusively for Pro Models

According to MacRumors, sources close to the development process report that Apple’s suppliers have successfully overcome the earlier production issues associated with the anti-reflective coating technology. As a result, these features are poised to enter mass production soon. Unfortunately for consumers of the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, this advanced display technology will be limited to the Pro variants this year.

The anti-reflective coating, initially announced last year but absent from the iPhone 16 series, is anticipated to enhance user satisfaction significantly. It seems Apple may be constraining production to meet the demands of the ‘Pro’ models, potentially relegating the other variants to wait for a more advanced display until the following year.

Early reports suggested that the new coating boasts greater durability compared to Apple’s existing Ceramic Shield utilized on the iPhone 16 lineup. This enhancement is expected to ensure that the iPhone 17 Pro models withstand daily wear and tear more effectively. Despite speculations regarding the timely development of the display, the resolution of past production slowdowns raises hopes for its introduction alongside the iPhone 17 Prolaunch.

Interestingly, Apple has recently adopted nano-texture glass for its Mac and iPad Pro models, which serves to minimize reflections. While it remains uncertain if this technology will transition to the iPhone series, it appears that Apple will implement a new anti-reflective method akin to that found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung employs Gorilla Glass Armor, effectively reducing reflections by as much as 75%, and similar performance is anticipated for the iPhone 17 Pro models.
