Apple increases charging speeds for iPhone 16 and 16 Pro to 45W

Recent certification documents released on the Chinese social media platform Weibo indicate that all four iPhone 16 models, unveiled on September 9, now feature significantly enhanced charging speeds (wired). The China Quality Certification Center (CQC) provided details on charging tests for the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which revealed a new maximum charging speed of up to 45W at 5V through 15V at 3A.

This finding supports earlier speculation that the iPhone 16 series would surpass the previous iPhone 15 lineup with faster wired charging capabilities (20W).

In addition to faster wired charging, the iPhone 16 series also boasts improvements in wireless charging speeds. Users can now charge all four models at up to 25W using the new MagSafe charging accessories. To achieve these speeds, users will need a more robust charging brick, with Apple recommending a power output of at least 30W.

Interestingly, Apple did not reveal the enhanced wired charging speeds during the iPhone 16 announcement, and no information has been provided on the official website regarding this upgrade. The precise capacities of the batteries in all four new iPhones remain undisclosed. However, it has been noted that the latest generation offers approximately two additional hours of video playback from a single charge, thanks to the more efficient chips and larger batteries included in the Pro models.

The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow, September 13, 2024. The official sales launch is scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2024, with prices beginning at $799 for the iPhone 16 and $999 for the iPhone 16 Pro.
