Apple further extends its repair program for the AirPods Pro

Apple is extending its repair program for the AirPods Pro for three years from the date of sale of the first retail unit. Units manufactured before October 2020 are known to produce cracking or static sound during use. Apple’s service program for such units was initially valid for only two years.

The change in the support document was first spotted by a Reddit user in the r/airpods subreddit. If you have purchased a pair of AirPods Pro on or before October 2020, here are the behaviors to look for, according to Apple:

  • Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone
  • Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service the affected AirPods Pro (left, right or both), free of charge.

Do note that the AirPods Pro case is unaffected and will not be replaced. If your AirPods Pro is exhibiting any of the above-mentioned behavior, you can get it replaced within three years after the first retail sale of the unit. Here are some useful links:
