Despite its innovative design and advanced technological features, the Apple Vision Pro headset has not achieved commercial success, leaving many potential users disappointed. Nonetheless, Apple is not abandoning the Vision Pro initiative. Given the substantial investment of billions into the project, the company aims to refine its approach, focusing on creating a more affordable, lightweight version that integrates seamlessly with other popular Apple products. Recent rumors hint at a forthcoming, budget-friendly model of the Vision Pro, sparked by insights from Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter.

According to Gurman, Apple is developing two distinct versions of the Vision Pro headset, each tailored for specific user demographics. The first model is designed to be lighter and more affordable, directly addressing the excessive weight (1.5 pounds, or 680 grams) and high cost that have hindered the original model’s appeal.
Additionally, the high price point of $3, 500 has been cited as a primary factor in the headset’s lack of market traction, with some forecasts suggesting that the more economical alternative could debut as early as 2027.
Enterprise Applications and New Features
The second Vision Pro iteration will feature a direct connection to Mac computers, allowing users to directly stream content. It promises to deliver a comparable experience of immersion to that of the original headset.
“The idea is to create an ultra-low-latency system for streaming a user’s Mac display or for connecting to high-end enterprise applications. Some customers have been using the Vision Pro for things like viewing imaging during surgery or for flight simulators. Those are two areas where a user would want the least amount of lag possible — something that can’t be guaranteed by a fully wireless system.”
The Future of Augmented Reality at Apple
Looking further into the future, Gurman highlighted that Apple’s engineers are working towards a bold vision outlined by CEO Tim Cook. This includes the development of true augmented reality glasses that users can wear throughout the day with ease. These anticipated Apple AR glasses are expected to draw on inspirations from Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, infused with unique elements like Siri integration and enhanced visual capabilities.
