Apple Begins Mass Production of iPhone 17 Series Ahead of September Launch; Foxconn Implements Bonuses Up to $1,294 to Meet Demand

The highly anticipated launch of the iPhone 17 is set for early September. Recent reports indicate that Apple has initiated production for four new models in preparation for its forthcoming announcements. In a strategic shift reminiscent of past practices, Apple has once again partnered with Foxconn to fulfill millions of units. However, this time, the manufacturing titan has begun its assembly operations outside of China. This move forms part of Apple’s efforts to comply with regulations from the Trump administration, while simultaneously avoiding hefty tariffs on iPhone imports from international markets.

Production Preference for iPhone 17 Pro Models Due to Exclusive Upgrades

Industry insiders reported to China Securities Journal, with observations noted by Patently Apple, that mass production of the iPhone 17 series is now underway. Notably, this marks the first season where all four models scheduled to launch will be assembled in both India and China. Foxconn is ramping up its workforce significantly, incentivizing thousands of potential workers with enhanced signing bonuses and rebates to meet the anticipated surge in demand.

According to reports, Foxconn’s regular employees stand to gain a personal bonus of 5, 400 yuan (approximately $752), while dispatched workers can expect an impressive rebate of 8, 000 yuan ($1, 114) alongside a subsidy of 1, 600 yuan (around $223).Some workers have reportedly been awarded bonuses as high as 9, 300 yuan, or about $1, 294. Specific details regarding the initial shipment quantities for the iPhone 17 remain unconfirmed. However, it is noteworthy that Foxconn has expanded its operations in India, incorporating Tata Group’s facility in Tamil Nadu to enhance production efficiency.

Tata Group’s manufacturing sites are projected to be responsible for up to 50% of India’s total iPhone outputs, with rapid increases in export figures expected. Since Apple’s decision to diversify its production away from China, the total value of iPhone exports from India has surged to an impressive $7.5 billion over the past four months. Although which specific models will see higher production rates remains to be seen, early indications suggest a preferential focus on the ‘Pro’ versions due to their exclusive features, which have historically made up a substantial share of total shipments. Reports suggest that the iPhone 17 will be officially announced on September 9, so make sure to mark your calendars and stay tuned for further updates.
