Apple’s interest in motorsports isn’t unprecedented. Over the past few years, the company has been gradually establishing its presence in the sports and entertainment landscape. A notable highlight was the successful release of F1: The Movie, which debuted in cinemas and IMAX in June 2025, featuring Brad Pitt and grossing over $625 million globally. The film is slated for streaming on Apple TV starting December 12, 2025. The rising avidity for Formula 1 in the U. S.can also be largely attributed to the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive, which has dramatically increased American viewership.
Comments from Formula 1 Leadership
Stefano Domenicali, the President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the partnership:
“This is an incredibly exciting partnership for both Formula 1 and Apple that will ensure we can continue to maximise our growth potential in the U. S.with the right content and innovative distribution channels.”
What to Expect from the Partnership
The agreement grants Apple exclusive rights to broadcast live races, highlights, and original programming tailored specifically for American audiences, marking the end of ESPN’s involvement in broadcasting the series in the U. S.
Apple aims to enhance the fan experience by leveraging its extensive digital ecosystem. This approach includes potential innovations across various platforms such as Apple News, Maps, Music, Sports, and Fitness+.Features like interactive content and personalized viewing options will likely enrich the user experience, making races available for free on the Apple TV app for all U. S.fans, including select races and practice sessions.
While it remains unclear whether Apple will create its own version of F1 coverage or rely on the existing Sky Sports F1 international feed used by ESPN, F1’s premium content offering, F1 TV Premium, will still be accessible via an Apple TV subscription in the U. S.
With this significant partnership, Apple not only elevates its sports broadcasting portfolio but also solidifies its position in the fast-expanding sports streaming market.
