Andrew Wilson Outlines Goals for the Future of Apex Legends
The 22nd season of Apex Legends brought several upgrades including enhanced anti-cheat measures, fresh game modes, and a revamped map. Additionally, the Battle Pass underwent modifications with the addition of two new paid tiers, named Ultimate and Ultimate+.
However, the alterations to the Battle Pass have not received enthusiastic responses. EA’s Chief Executive, Andrew Wilson, pointed out that the expected financial benefits from these changes were not realized.
As a result, Wilson has indicated that the game will see revisions to its overall monetization strategy. He emphasized that Apex Legends is a beloved game supported by a dedicated community, and EA aims to meet the expectations of this global audience.
In a recent interview with Variety, Wilson elaborated on his vision, stating:
“Firstly, in the competitive arena where brand loyalty, a solid core player base, and high-quality gameplay are crucial, ‘Apex’ has established itself as a significant franchise and a mainstay in the industry. Secondly, to achieve notable growth and re-engagement, extensive systematic changes are necessary. Our focus will remain on player retention and enhancing content diversity to better serve our global community as we work towards implementing more groundbreaking changes in the future.”
The specific details regarding these forthcoming changes have yet to be disclosed by EA. However, CFO Stuart Canfield has reiterated that the focus will be on improving player retention and engagement while shaping the game’s trajectory.
