Anthony Ricco and Alexandra Shapiro Join Diddy’s Legal Team for 3rd Bail Attempt

Sean “Diddy”Combs is reportedly making another attempt to secure bail, enlisting the help of attorneys Anthony Ricco and Alexandra Shapiro. The rapper was arrested on September 16, 2024, facing serious allegations including s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution. Notably, his bail requests have already been denied by the court on two separate occasions.

Among Diddy’s new legal representatives, Anthony Ricco brings extensive experience in death penalty cases, having served as a capital counsel on multiple death-eligible cases. Meanwhile, Alexandra Shapiro has distinguished herself as a successful appellate attorney, known for securing reversals in several criminal and civil matters, and is also well-versed in trial law.

According to TMZ, Diddy’s new legal team filed a notice of intent to appeal for his release on September 30, 2024. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 9, and further updates on the appeal brief are anticipated shortly.

Recent updates on the case indicate that Diddy is no longer on suicide watch, a status that was lifted about a week ago. People magazine reported that Diddy appeared to be in shock following his arrest, though there remains ambiguity about his mental state.

In addition to being off suicide watch, Diddy has had family visits while being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. One of his attorneys conveyed to People magazine that he is “focused and very strong,”preparing to confront the upcoming trial.

Anthony Ricco has practiced law since 1982 and has been involved in notable cases, including the World Trade Bombing conspiracy and United States v. Usama Bin Laden. He received his education from Adelphi University and Northeastern University School of Law, where he has also taught topics like the Future of Dangerousness and death penalty litigation. Additionally, Ricco has acted as an instructor for seminars for the New York State Appellate Division and the Indigent Assigned Counsel Plan.

Furthermore, Ricco has contributed to various programs such as the Federal Death Penalty Resource Counsel Project, established by the Office of Defender Services of the Administrative Office of the US Courts in 1992. He has received numerous awards, including the Attorney of the Year by the Metropolitan Black Bar Association in 2008.

On the other hand, Alexandra Shapiro is recognized as a co-founder of Shapiro Arato Bach LLP. Throughout her career, she has represented a wide array of professionals, officials, and corporations, and she is also the author of a novel titled “Presumed Guilty,”as per her LinkedIn profile.

Shapiro earned her law degree from Columbia Law School and has been a legal professional since 1991. She has served as a law clerk for prominent figures including Judge Stephen F. Williams and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as at the U.S. Court of Appeals and as a partner at Latham & Watkins.
