New Chronicles DLC: Age of Empires II Expands with Alexander the Great

The influx of downloadable content (DLC) for Age of Empires II shows no signs of slowing down. The latest announcement introduces another exciting chapter in the series’ Chronicles DLC lineup for the Definitive Edition of this acclaimed real-time strategy game.

In collaboration with developer CaptureAge, known for its expertise in enhancing gaming narratives, the new expansion titled Chronicles: Alexander the Great offers players an extensive campaign featuring 18 scenarios. This DLC comes packed with beautifully animated mosaic cutscenes, a customizable army for campaigns, advanced technologies, as well as significant visual and audio enhancements.

Control Iconic Civilizations

Players can immerse themselves in the roles of the Macedonians, Thracians, and Puru civilizations throughout the new campaigns. They will deploy a diverse range of units from Achaemenid chariots to Puru elephants. The expansion also implements enhanced graphics for siege units alongside 13 new music tracks catering to both campaign and skirmish modes.

Civilization Specializations

Here’s a breakdown of the three new civilizations included in the Chronicles expansion, along with their unique strengths:

Macedonians
- Utilize a highly disciplined Macedonian army. Leverage the long pikes of their Phalangite infantry to keep adversaries at bay while your Companion cavalry delivers powerful strikes. Establish Fortified Outposts to facilitate swift assaults and reinforce frontline positions effectively.
Thracians
- Execute surprise raids with the nimble Rhomphaia Warriors. Unlock unique technologies that provide gold bonuses for combat. The Thracians transform seemingly minor skirmishers into formidable fighters through a range of technology bonuses.
Pure
- Summon the might of elephants! The Puru civilization draws from their Punjab heritage to deploy these colossal beasts against foes. Combine raw power with precise ranged tactics by integrating archers equipped with devastating bamboo longbows into your strategy.

Release Information

Mark your calendars: Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Chronicles: Alexander the Great is set for release on October 14. It is currently available for pre-order on Steam and the Microsoft Store for both PC and Xbox, with a limited-time 15% discount, bringing the price down to $12.74. A PlayStation 5 version of the DLC is also planned, though it will not feature pre-order offers at launch.
