In a recent Capcom Spotlight event, the company unveiled exciting news: a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is on the way. Originally launched in 2002 for the PlayStation 2, this classic action-adventure title garnered favorable reviews and impressive sales during its heyday. After lingering exclusively on the PS2 for many years, it seemed unlikely that Capcom would revisit this beloved title—until now.
In 2018, the release of a remaster for Onimusha: Warlords offered hope for the franchise’s revival; however, reports indicating lackluster sales dampened expectations for future remasters. Many fans began to fear that the Onimusha franchise might remain dormant indefinitely.

The newly confirmed Onimusha 2 remaster appears to mirror the previous remaster, focusing primarily on refining the graphics without adding significant new content or major enhancements. Fans of the series may view this as a positive sign, suggesting that other installments could eventually see similar updates, although official announcements regarding such plans have yet to be made.

Despite the welcome news of the Onimusha 2 remaster, a substantial portion of the franchise remains accessible only on outdated hardware. Following Onimusha 2, fans received titles like Onimusha Tactics on the Game Boy Advance, Onimusha Blade Warriors on PS2, and the highly praised sequel Onimusha 2: Demon Siege, along with the 2006 release of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.
While it is uncertain whether other beloved titles from the Onimusha lineup will undergo remastering, there is exciting news on the horizon: a brand-new title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, is confirmed for release in 2026—the first new addition to the series in two decades.
