Angel Reese posts humble WNBA draft declaration after ‘villain’ season with LSU Tigers
Despite facing a tough defeat against Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight, Angel Reese of the LSU Tigers is determined to continue her basketball career at the professional level. She has officially announced her participation in the upcoming 2024 WNBA draft, which is scheduled for April 15.
After the defeat, the six-foot-three forward took a break and once the dust settled, Reese used social media to express her gratitude to all those who have supported her throughout her college basketball career. She posted on X to share her message.
“Whew I wasn’t able to even digest everything yesterday but I want to say thank EVERYONE for showing me sooooo much love! Making my announcement with VOGUE was ICONIC. In this new world that I’m stepping into, ujust believe in me, trust in me & give me time to learn and grow!”
Angel Reese played college basketball for both the Maryland Terrapins and LSU Tigers for a total of four years. In 2023, she achieved the title of NCAA champion and was also honored with the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award. Additionally, for the second time in 2023-2024, she was recognized as a First Team All-American.
Angel Reese’s WNBA Draft Projection and College Career Stats
The 2024 WNBA draft is expected to feature Caitlin Clark as the first overall pick, with Angel Reese projected by ESPN to be selected seventh overall. According to projections, Reese will be joining the Minnesota Lynx. The players ahead of her in the draft order are Clark, Cameron Brink, Rickeaa Jackson, Kamilla Cardoso, Aaliyah Edwards, and Jacy Sheldon.
During her last year playing for the LSU Tigers, Reese consistently contributed 18.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. She had a standout game against the Queens (NC) Royals, scoring 28 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and recording two steals.
Despite being known as a strong rebounder, her offensive abilities still require improvement in order to make a significant impact against the top female basketball players in the world.
The Minnesota Lynx placed sixth in the 2023 regular season and were defeated in the first round by the Connecticut Sun. Adding Reese to their lineup would allow her to join forces with Napheesa Collier and Dorka Juhasz in the front court. Reese’s strong rebounding abilities would be a valuable asset, addressing a deficiency that was evident in their challenging defeat against the Sun.
