AnduinOS Enhances User Experience with Recent Updates
Recently, AnduinOS—a Linux distribution developed by a Microsoft employee—has garnered significant attention for its user-friendly design that closely mimics the Windows interface. This week, the operating system introduced a series of point releases including versions 1.3.3, 1.2.6, and 1.1.6.
Key Updates in the Latest Releases
These point releases primarily focus on minor improvements, with all three versions sharing identical enhancements. Below are the notable changes included in the latest updates:
- Resolved an accessibility issue that prevented the screen reader from accurately reading text.
- Introduced
librime-plugin-lua
for users ofibus-rime
, enabling support for Lua scripts (defaulting to zh_CN). - Included
policykit-desktop-privileges
in the default applications to facilitate no-password prompts for tasks like mounting and simple updates.
Upgrade Process for Users
As a fledgling Linux distribution, the upgrade procedure for AnduinOS is currently not as straightforward as typical software upgrades, where users simply tap an upgrade button in a store. Instead, users must execute a script. To update to the latest point release pertaining to your major version, access the terminal and enter the command do_anduinos_upgrade. This command will ensure your system is updated regardless of your current release status.
Future Enhancements on the Horizon
Looking ahead, Anduin Xue, the mind behind AnduinOS, has plans to simplify updates further. Future updates are expected to be manageable through the traditional sudo apt upgrade command. For now, users must rely on the script to keep their systems current.
Additionally, it’s worthy to note that AnduinOS 1.4 is set to launch at the end of October 2025, based on Ubuntu 25.10, while AnduinOS 1.5 will follow in late April 2026, built on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. With these new versions, users can anticipate improvements that may include a more conventional upgrade process.
