Analysts Reveal Preliminary Specifications for Foldable iPhone: Features Advanced 2nm A20 Pro Chip and New C2 5G Modem, but Telephoto Camera May Be Omitted to Cut Costs

The upcoming foldable iPhone is sparking considerable interest, revealing a mix of advanced features and potential trade-offs from Apple. As the company gears up for a launch in the latter half of 2026, it is expected to integrate state-of-the-art hardware. However, some compromises may arise, such as the absence of Face ID due to design challenges. Analysts suggest that the camera configuration may also be less robust than anticipated, despite impressive features highlighted in preliminary specifications.

Display Specifications and RAM Limitations

Recent insights indicate that Apple has decided to prioritize certain aspects of the foldable iPhone’s design while placing limits on others. Reports confirm that it will utilize OLED displays sourced from Samsung, renowned for their crease-free technology. Furthermore, the phone’s specifications reveal that Apple will restrict the RAM to just 12GB, which may appear modest considering the anticipated features.

According to a tip shared by @Jukanlosreve on X, the foldable device will boast the formidable A20 Pro chip, crafted using TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm process. Apple is reportedly implementing advanced Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) packaging for this chipset, enabling the integration of multiple components like CPUs and GPUs efficiently. This innovation promises not only reduced die sizes but also improved power efficiency.

Internal Components and Connectivity

Anticipations surrounding the internal components are high, as the foldable iPhone is also expected to feature an in-house C2 5G modem, which has been under development since early 2023. This modem is believed to support mmWave technology, a significant upgrade compared to the previous iPhone 16e model.

In terms of storage, options are likely to range from 256GB to a substantial 1TB. However, with the RAM capped at 12GB, many are questioning whether this will be adequate for such a premium device. Recent analysis reveals that the estimated Bill of Materials (BOM) will be around $759, leading some to predict a retail price between $2, 000 and $2, 400—comparable to high-end configurations of the MacBook Pro. Given this pricing strategy, consumers might expect a minimum of 16GB of RAM to be included.

Camera Capabilities

On the photography front, the foldable iPhone is projected to include only wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle sensors, both capable of shooting at a maximum resolution of 48MP. Notably, the device is expected to lack a telephoto lens, which could deter some photography enthusiasts.

Device Dimensions and Display

When folded, the device’s thickness will measure between 9-9.5mm, while in its unfolded state, it will be 4.5-4.8mm thick. The cover display is designed to be 5.5 inches, whereas the inner display will measure approximately 7.8 inches diagonally. It is important to note that these specifications are preliminary and subject to change as the launch date approaches. Regular updates will be shared as new information becomes available, so remain engaged for the latest developments.
