Recent insights from a notable industry analyst suggest that Apple is on track to unveil its second-generation foldable iPhone by 2027. This device is expected to feature significant improvements, particularly in display technology and hinge design. Interestingly, the original foldable iPhone is already anticipated to offer several design advantages that could provide users with an enhanced experience compared to existing options on the market.
Apple Aims to Redefine the Foldable Phone Experience with Innovative Designs
In his latest Power On newsletter, tech analyst Mark Gurman elaborated on two key benefits that the upcoming foldable iPhone is likely to deliver. Currently under development, Apple is dedicated to addressing common foldable phone concerns, namely the integrity of the display and the durability of the hinge. Previous reports indicated that strict quality benchmarks are contributing to delays in the device’s release, particularly with efforts focused on eliminating creases on the display.
Gurman describes the expected design as featuring a “nearly invisible”crease once the device is fully opened. This innovation means that the anticipated display size of 7.8 to 8 inches will effectively provide a seamless viewing area, free from the light refraction issues noted in many competitor models.“Apple aims to differentiate itself by reducing the visibility of the crease when the phone is opened, ”Gurman explains.
Moreover, the foldable iPhone’s hinge is expected to surpass the quality of those found in competing devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Huawei. Although Gurman refrained from disclosing specific materials used in the hinge construction, it has been confirmed that it will employ a mix of stainless steel and titanium, promising strength and durability. Nonetheless, the real-world performance of this hinge remains to be evaluated as further testing proceeds.
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo added that the foldable iPhone’s external display will measure 5.5 inches, while the internal screen will be around 7.8 inches, making it comparable to an iPad mini but exhibiting a different aspect ratio. Notably, this device will incorporate Touch ID within the power button instead of Face ID and will be powered by a high-density battery. The thickness is reported to be 4.5mm when opened and between 9 to 9.5mm when folded.
We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more details emerge, so stay tuned for more exciting news regarding Apple’s innovative technology.
